Television or radio - which do we prefer
With the two forms of media how much time do we spend with both and which do we prefer.
Bruce watches CCTV 2 Breakfast News every morning while having breakfast, then no other TV all day except when travelling on the bus or the metro.
Radio can be background sounds while working or driving - working on the computer radio can give us music or news updates - radio can also make us think because we have to picture what the speaker is telling us.
One reason for not watching television is time - it is ‘passive’ - we sit there possibly becoming ‘couch potatoes’ and can waste literally hours every day doing nothing except watching television - in fact, people can end up not socialising because they have spent all their time watching television!
Is there a place for television? Yes, when people are in situations where they are not active - I love having my own television on a long plane journey and not just watching a movie like ‘Casablanca’ (watched it 6 times recently between Beijing and London) but also the map telling how long the flight has to go; then television is good for people in hospital or lying in bed at home, but in a taxi - no, too many distractions outside the window.
So, let us talk about our own likes/dislikes about radio and television and in what ways is radio a very different creative form of art to television.
